SH Farana #602299

Bay Colt, Foaled July 3, 2002

For several years, I've sought out Farana breeding to cross back with our Abu Farwa, Aurab, and Zadir breeding. In the course of my search, I found Ibn El Nafar, one of only two Farana tail male stallions that appeared to still be available anywhere. In addition to being tail male, he had a total of 5 Farana crosses as well as several crosses to Farana's full siblings and close relatives. "Naffy" came to live out his last year with us, and we were able to get a few mares in foal to him, including SH Laws Autumn, one of our Lawmoss daughters who has 4 Farana crosses herself. Imagine my jubilation to discover that that tippy little set of ears that appeared out in the grass during the 15 minutes that I dashed off for a bite of breakfast turned out to belong to a BAY COLT that had pretty much ALL of what I was looking for in a linebred Farana stallion! As he grew, he exhibited the self-carriage and athleticism of his ancestor, as well as being correct, beautiful and having one of the best dispositions we've ever had in a foal. Of course, we HAD to name him Farana....

Then imagine the mind-numbing horror of coming out at dusk to feed on a December evening, to find him with one front leg literally dangling by tendon and skin, with the shattered cannon bone exposed through a jagged wound.... But this special and trusting colt looked me in the eye and told me that he simply wasn't ready to die. So against all odds, we had to try. The saga of his treatment and his ongoing struggle to recover and rehab can be viewed on a separate page (Baby Farana's Story) but suffice it to say that he is mending and is indeed our Miracle Baby. Although we've had to let go of our dreams of him being an outstanding riding horse, hopefully he will still be able to have a long and useful career as a breeding stallion, and we will be able to ride the next generation.
